My name is Hannah Hamner. I was born and raised in Buffalo, New York, but now consider Ohio my home. I’m a public relations major at Kent State and want to get into event planning. However, as long as my first job includes traveling, I will be a happy camper. My dream jobs are working PR for the Olympics or a music festival.
Coming to Kent was the best decision of my life. It has opened me up to so many opportunities. I’ve made so many connections through PRSSA Kent, work, and other organizations. I’m looking forward to applying what I’ve learned to my “real” life.
Looking back on my years at Kent, I’ve realized I cherish my years in the dorms. However, stepping on a scale at the end of sophomore year put into perspective how having unlimited access to food on campus wasn’t necessarily a good thing. “Running” around from one activity to the next didn’t translate to burning any calories. Therefore, the summer after my second year meant heading to the track everyday and eating bad things in smaller portions in order to reach my target weight.
Though these tactics slimmed me down, I’ve since come to terms with the fact that losing weight is not equivalent to living healthy. It is much more important to eat well and add variety to workouts. Much can be said for mental stability, also.
My main goal in life is happiness. For me, this means embracing change and trying new things. Getting healthy is not exception to this goal. I’m eager to explore different methods toward wellness and to share them with you!
